IMISCOE International Migration, Integration & Social Cohesion

KEY QUESTIONS AND AIMS

What are the causes and nature of current migration processes? How can migration flows be managed and influenced? How can societies maintain social cohesion and societal viability? Hoe can scientists, policy makers and practitioners in the field exchange knowledge and experience? Answering these kind of questions is what catalysed IMISCOE’s establishment and what continues to compel the Network’s raison d’être.

IMISCOE is a Network of Excellence uniting 23 established European research institutes and over 500 researchers from all European countries and of all branches of the economic and social sciences, the humanities and law in pursuit of studies under the themes of international migration, integration and social cohesion. Since its inception in 2004, IMISCOE has worked to:

  1. A unique infrastructure to develop innovative research programmes >>>
  2. Promote high-quality training for PhD students >>>
  3. Publish the results of research and exchange migration data and expertise >>>

NETWORK OF EXCELLENCE : THE INSTRUMENT

Networks of Excellence were installed as instrument by the European Commission in their Sixth Framework Programme. NoE are designed to strengthen scientific and technological excellence on a particular research topic through the durable integration of the research capacities of the participants. They aim to overcome the fragmentation of European research by:

  • gathering the critical mass of resources
  • gathering the expertise needed to provide European leadership

NoE also have to spread excellence beyond the boundaries of its partnership.
