IMISCOE International Migration, Integration & Social Cohesion

  • The cluster teams and the Cluster Leaders The structure of the work and management within the research programme is based on nine thematic clusters and four horizontal teams (Training Committee and the three feasibility study teams). Each cluster team is chaired by a Cluster Leader. The main task of the Cluster Leaders is to co-ordinate research and implement the integrative activities within their cluster. They also initiate cross-cluster activities that serve the development of the joint research programme.
  • The Board of Programme Leaders The Board of Directors appoints the members of the Board of Programme Leaders (BPL). The BPL comprises the (initially nine) Cluster Leaders and constitutes the scholarly board of the Network and scholarly leaders in charge of important adaptation studies, such as the feasibility studies for the development of the new research lines EUROLINKS, INTPOL and SOCO.
  • The Board of Directors The Board of Directors (BD) is composed of one authorised representative (and a deputy representative) from each participating organisation in the network.
  • The Co-ordinator and the Executive Board The Co-ordinator of the project is prof. Rinus Penninx of the Institute of Migration and Ethnic Studies. As Co-ordinator of the Network, he acts as chair of the Board of Programme Leaders and as the liaison with the European Commission. The Executive Board (EB) consists of the representatives of four member organisations and the Co-ordinator. This Board acts as the principal co-ordinating body of the Network and supports the Co-ordinator, who handles the day-to-day co-ordination.
  • The External Advisory Committee The External Advisory Committee (EAC) consists of representatives of official (international, national, regional and local) bodies, including the Directorate General of Justice and Home Affairs, Social Affairs and Employment of the EC, representatives of NGOs and funding organisations, and other stakeholders. The EAC consults the network on the activities that are being developed to reach the defined aims (building a research programme, developing a system of training and dissemination), specifically the aim to reach a broad public and policy makers.
  • The Network Office The Network Office is the administrative and organisational heart of the Network. In addition to the Co-ordinator, it consists of a qualified senior administrator responsible for the financial and auditing management, a Communication and Dissemination Officer responsible for the communication and dissemination plan and the maintenance of the Network’s website, a policy advisor and an assitant to the manager. The administrative team assists the Executive Board as well as the Board of Directors, the External Advisory Board and the Co-ordinator in the fulfilment of administrative and organisational tasks.
  • The working groups Within the main Network structure, a variable set of working groups are active, depending on needs in particular phases of Network’s development, its research programme and its programme facilities. The following working groups are now in place:
  • Communication and Dissemination Committee
  • Editorial Committee
