IMISCOE International Migration, Integration & Social Cohesion

IMISCOE implements an integrated, multidisciplinary, rigorously comparative research programme with Europe as its central focus.

IMISCOE THEMES

1) International migration: the spatial movement, voluntary or forced, of persons across political borders as a process, together with its causes and consequences.

2) The process of settlement and integration of immigrants and their descendants in the society of destination and the consequences this has for the receiving society.

ORGANISATION OF RESEARCH

All members are brought together into one programme organised in Research Clusters and Cross Cluster Working Groups. In these clusters and working groups members exchange information on their current research activities and findings, make strategic choices to build a coherent research programme in their domain and undertake a variety of activities like the organisation of workshops and publication of books.

Strategic instruments to develop new research have been developed to involve most or all of the present members as well as new members (particularly in the South and East of Europe) and to stimulate theory building and development of methodologies.

NEW RESEARCH PROJECTS

IMISCOE is a platform that enables its members to also initiate new research projects through external funding. Such projects are continually in the making. The following are just some that have been made possible so far:

CLIP-Cities for local integration policies. This project allows experts to exchangclipe information about their individual cities’ experiences in integration measures and supports fieldwork for local case studies.
