Oslo is the oldest of the Scandinavian capitols, and its history goes back 1000 years. Today Oslo has about 630 000 inhabitants and covers 454 square kilometers, 242 of which are forests. Sandwiched between a fjord and forested hills, Oslo is the ideal place to experience both the vibrant city life combined with great nature experiences.
The capital is the seat of the Norwegian Government and the Norwegian Parliament as well as The Royal Palace – home of Norway's King Harald V and Queen Sonja. Since the late seventies Oslo has become a city of great cultural diversity adding a cosmopolitan touch to this quiet capital of the North.
Here is a short introduction to our city: Oslo (made by Visit Norway).
Things to do
Oslo has a wide range of museums, historical buildings, modern architecture, and other attractions to offer visitors. Worth mentioning are the two museums, the new Munch Museum (opened October 2021) and the new National Museum (will open June 2022). They represent two of the most ambitious cultural projects seen in the Nordics this decade. Oslo is home of cultural giants such as Edvard Munch, Gustav Vigeland, Thor Heyerdahl and Henrik Ibsen, each have their own museums. Entrance to most museums is included in the Oslo Pass, the city Card for Oslo. For IMISCOE participants interested in the multicultural part of the Norwegian capitol, we recommend a visit to the Intercultural Museum.

About the Conference Venue
The Conference Venue is located at Oslo Metropolitan University Campus Pilestredet, at the address Pilestredet 35. It is located in the center of Oslo, between the Royal Castle and the Akerselva River that divides Oslo in an East-side and a West-side. The area has many restaurants and bars, and we recommend a walk along the river!
