REMINDER IMISCOE Seed Funding for Research Clusters: Call for Proposals (Deadline: December 1, 2016)

Over the past decade IMISCOE has provided seed money to selected research initiatives. It has issued consecutive calls for new research initiatives. The aim of these initiatives is to mobilize colleagues in order to explore possibilities of enhancing new research (by developing research proposals), of joint publications or other activities around specific topics.

REMINDER Call for Papers Panels and Workshops


Cities are often the main ports of entry for migration and the location where migration-related diversity is manifested most prominently.  The 14th annual conference turns attention to the urban dimension of migration and migration-related diversity.

The deadline for submitting proposals is Thursday 15 December (24:00 CET). All submissions should be made online via www.imiscoe.org. Applicants will be informed about acceptance of their submission by February 1st.

REMINDER Call for Nominations IMISCOE Maria Ioannis Baganha Dissertation Award 2017 (Deadline: January 9, 2017)

IMISCOE has opened nominations for its 2017 Maria Ioannis Baganha Dissertation Award. The Network has awarded this prize annually since 2010 (overview of winners) to stimulate and recognise excellent PhD research in the field of migration, integration and social cohesion in Europe. The 2017 competition is open to all PhD recipients whose dissertations were defended within the 24-month period before the deadline for submission of 9 January 2017. Applicants are invited to apply on their own behalf, although dissertation supervisors may also nominate candidates.


 

Summer PhD School will take place from 17 to 21 July 2017!

The movement of people has accompanied the growth of mankind, until in our days becoming an increasingly complex phenomenon. However, the perception about migration has always been clouded by various gut feelings and misconceptions that are often the result of prejudices and, more generally, the fear of the other. At the time being, the so-called “European refugee crisis” has captured public, media and political attention. An unprecedented number of migrants and asylum seekers has been crossing the Mediterranean Sea to enter Europe in order to escape wars and persecution or simply in search of a better life. The eternal recurrence of an international moral panic about migration has thus pervaded the public discourse, once again.

New PhD Representative: Carmen C. Draghici

As of September 2016, Carmen C. Draghici replaced Juan Francisco Alvarado as the representative of the IMISCOE PhD Network. She was appointed as the PhD Representative of the IMISCOE PhD Network for the period 2016-2017.
