Biography
Hari KC is pursuing a doctoral degree in Global Governance at the Balsillie School of International Affairs, Wilfrid Laurier University. His dissertation focuses on a comparative analysis of labour migration governance in Nepal and the Philippines, examining how gender operates as a governing code.

Born and raised in the Himalayan range in Nepal, Hari’s professional background comprises work in diverse areas, including academia, NGOs, diplomacy, and the media. In 2014, he served as a Career Counsellor at The Working Centre, a Kitchener-based community enterprise, where he provided career advice and settlement support to newcomers to Canada. Prior to immigrating to Canada in 2011, Hari worked for the Kathmandu-based BBC Media Action as a production team member for a television program (Sajha Sawal) and a radio drama (Katha Mitho Sarangiko), and used those platforms to advocate for social justice, human rights, and women’s empowerment. He served a t The Carter Center in Kathmandu as an elections observer during Nepal’s Constituent Assembly elections in 2008, and his work as a political analyst and media monitor at the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu in 2007 provided him with an opportunity to deepen his understanding of South Asian politics. From 2002 to 2010, Hari taught undergraduate English at the Tribhuvan University in Kathmandu, although his teaching career had begun in 1993 at a private school in Kathmandu called Hindu Vidyapeeth-Nepal, where he taught English until 2002.

Hari was awarded the Helmut Braun Scholarship in 2012 from the Kitchener-based Centre for Community Based Research to study parent-child relational dynamics among South Asian diasporic communities in the Waterloo region. At the University of Waterloo, he won the Beltz Essay Award in 2012 and the Dean’s Pick Award in 2015 for his outstanding essays. Hari has presented papers in different international fora, and has five peer-reviewed journal articles to his credit.
