Since April 2014 Susanne Schultz is a doctoral researcher at the Bielefeld Graduate School in History and Sociology (BGHS) at the Faculty of Sociology at Bielefeld University. She holds a M.A. in Intercultural Communication Studies from the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder) and a B.A. in European Cultural History from the University of Augsburg. Her dissertation project focuses on involuntary return and migration dynamics in West Africa against the background of the externalization of EU migration policies, and specifies on the socio‐economic and political effects as well as the social handling of post deportation in Mali. Her research interests include migration, development, borders, irregularity, transnational and local networks, mobilization as well as discrimination and gender relations. From 2009 to 2013, she worked with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Switzerland, Turkey and Germany.
