IMISCOE Web Directory - Anna Simola
Anna Simola completed her MSSc in 2008 in Sociology from the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Tampere. Until the late 2010 she worked at the University of Tampere as a project researcher on issues related to migration, labour migration and the financial crisis at the Research Centre for Journalism, Media and Communication, authoring and co-authoring a number of research articles and reports on these issues. Simola has been enrolled in PhD study since 2014 at the University of Helsinki. Her PhD project “Superfluous talents? Precarious mobility of highly educated young adults in the EU labour markets” draws on narrative in-depth interviews with university educated southern and northern European young adults who have migrated to the EU capital of Brussels to work but have subsequently experienced precarious employment conditions and unemployment periods of different length. This data reveals substantial barriers to social citizenship rights and the complex ways these difficulties are connected to their transnational and precarious employment trajectories.
