Vacancy: Research Officer, Department of Social Sciences, University of Roehampton
The position arises from the Department’s involvement in an ERDF Urban Innovative Action award made to Utrecht City Council and local partners for its ‘Refugee Launch-pad’ (). The in collaboration with the Centre on Migration, Policy and Society ( ) at the University of Oxford is responsible for the evaluation and research strand of the project, which aims to develop an inclusive approach to facilitate integration by introducing a shared living concept in which local youth and asylum-seekers live and learn together.
We seek an experienced researcher who will play a lead role under supervision of the PI in evaluating and researching the initiative according to rigorous, academic standards and translating those findings to academia, policy audiences and the public. It is expected that the applicant will be based in and around the neighbourhood centre in Utrecht and have an academic background which is complementary to the project, with experience in mixed-methods (quantitative and qualitative) research and an interest in international migration, integration and social cohesion. The applicant will take the lead role in the empirical components of the project working with a range of local project partners in the city under the supervision of the principal investigator who will travel regularly to the field site. Fluency in Dutch and English is required. The successful candidate will have a growing record of high quality publications in the relevant area, but most importantly, we are seeking applications from highly motivated, proactive candidates who aspire to develop an academic career in this field.
Conditions of employment
Salary: £34,548 to £37,415 p.a. (pro rata) inclusive of London Weighting Allowance

Given that the post will be based in the Netherlands, the payment route will depend on specific circumstances:
- If the successful candidate is currently UK-based, salary payments may be processed through the University’s payroll into their UK bank account
- If the successful candidate is not currently UK-based, salary payments may be arranged via a third party payroll service into their overseas bank account
- If the successful candidate has a VAT registered company in the UK, payment can arranged via invoice.
