Dr Patricia Nabuco Martuscelli, and journalist Livia Barreira for the launch of the 4 episodes of the podcast that are focused on diversity and showcasing real stories of migrant women from the community, aligned with the work that has been developed by researchers from the Migration Research Group at the University of Sheffield.

MRG Webinar: City as the Southern Question

Professor Ranabir Samaddar, Calcutta Research Group, Kolkata, India will discuss his research on the Southern Question that makes the city of the South a counter-figure or if you like counter-power to the power of the North. Yet these cities whether on the Mediterranean or on the Arab Sea and Bay of Bengal, inhere the same North-South relationship - in short, the “Southern Question”.

MRG Seminar: Welcoming Through Languages Group: Politics of welcoming enacted in Brazilian countryside

Verônica Carvalho de Deus will present her research on the challenges, opportunities and next steps of the Grupo de Acolhimento em Línguas (GAL) [Welcoming Through Languages Group] at the University of Campinas, Brazil, considering languages as a politics of welcoming immigrants and providing integration.

MRG Panel debate: Understanding the 2024 race riots

This panel discuss long-term and structural processes which have laid the ground for the eruption of far-right violence during the 2024 riots. We also want to foreground community responses, and look with hope into the future towards a more tolerant society. We will hear from a mix of academics and practitioners working with migrant communities in the UK, and particularly South Yorkshire.
