The journal invites applications to join the Migration Politics Editorial College and welcome applications from established scholars interested in supporting rigorous, reflexive, and collaborative editorial practice grounded in slow scholarship, full open access, and a not-for-profit ethos.
Migration Politics publishes peer-reviewed scholarly contributions on the politics involved in representing, controlling, and managing migration. The journal features articles that promote interdisciplinary conversations among geographers, political scientists, anthropologists, historians, sociologists, and legal scholars on the relationship between migration and political institutions, processes, and power. Contributions are expected to present theoretically ambitious arguments, be grounded in original empirical material, and demonstrate methodological rigor. All published papers can be accessed via the journal’s website.
Editorial Approach
Migration Politics is a highly selective journal that adopts an intensive approach to curating cutting-edge scholarship. Calls are regularly issued for short paper proposals, after which selected authors are invited to participate in one-week in-person or virtual residencies at the University of Continuing Education Krems. These residencies focus on developing draft papers into full manuscripts.
Since 2026, the journal also publishes through two additional tracks:
- Two special issues per year emerging from collaborative research environments
- An “open track” (14–18 papers annually), where authors submit detailed concept notes and timelines for completing a full article within one year
Following proposal acceptance, full manuscripts undergo external peer review. The journal does not accept unsolicited manuscripts.
The current Senior Editorial Fellows are Heidrun Bohnet, Mathias Czaika, Albert Kraler, Lea Müller-Funk, Julia Mourão Permoser, and Federica Zardo.
