The Bulletin is one of the main communication channels of IMISCOE with its 71 Member Institutes, the individual members of our network and the wider community interested in our activities. It is built around contributions from the IMISCOE External Affairs Committee (EAC) and the Network Office based at the Centre for Ethnic and Migration Studies (CEDEM) of the University of Liège.
Since the last Bulletin in July, our IMISCOE community has remained as active as ever, driving forward a wide array of research activities. From the Board of Directors and the Executive Board to individual members of IMISCOE, our Standing and Executive Committees, PhD community, and the Network Office, your collective contributions continue to energize IMISCOE’s research landscape. This shared dedication to advancing migration research is what keeps our network dynamic, innovative, and forward-looking.
We open this edition with an editorial by Tamirace Fakhoury, who examines the “decentering turn” in refugee studies from various angles. We invite you to delve into her insights—and to also learn more about our Standing Committee on Forced Migration and Refugees, which provides a space for critical and reflexive conversations on refugee studies within IMISCOE. And speaking of Standing Committees, this Bulletin also brings you updates from several of them, with highlights from recent activities and a preview of what’s coming up in the months ahead.
We’re also delighted to introduce you two of the newest institutes that joined IMISCOE this year. Don’t miss the introduction by Aly Tandian and Angèle Mendy presenting the Laboratory for Studies and Research on Gender, Environment, Religion, and Migration (GERM) at Gaston Berger University—our very first IMISCOE Member Institute in Senegal! And check out the piece by Sybille Münch and Anna-Christine Görg presenting the Center for Diversity, Democracy, and Inclusion in Education (ZBI) at University of Hildesheim- a key hub for migration-related research in Germany!
Our PhD community has likewise been incredibly active since the last Bulletin. We invite you to explore Gökhan Kayır’s piece on the recent event of IMISCOE’s PhD Academy, alongside an update from Denis Zeković and Yowali Kabamba on the latest activities within the IMISCOE PhD Network.
Moreover, this Bulletin further highlights initiatives aimed at strengthening the communication and visibility of migration research both within IMISCOE and to wider audiences. Don’t miss the updates from Anna Triandafyllidou and Irina Isaakyan on the newest publications in IMISCOE’s book series with Springer, and catch up on the latest episodes of the IMISCOE Migration Podcast—now already in its fifth season!
On behalf of IMISCOE’s Network Office and External Affairs Committee, our sincere thanks to all contributors to this edition of the Bulletin—and to every member of the IMISCOE community. Your commitment is what sustains and strengthens our international, interdisciplinary network.
We wish you an enjoyable read and encourage you to share this Bulletin widely to help us spread the word about our IMISCOE research and activities.
