International conference and inauguration of the Collaborative Research Centre SFB 1604

The inauguration of the Collaborative Research Centre SFB 1604 and the conference "Production of Migration: Figures, Infrastructures and Spaces" will take place from 23-25 October at Osnabrück University (Germany). Registration is now open!

The SFB "Production of Migration" is an interdisciplinary consortium funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG), that sets out to collectively develop a reflexive theory of the social production of migration over the next years. Launched in April 2024, around 50 researchers from the fields of geography, history, psychology, linguistics, law and social sciences are investigating various forms, facets and consequences of the social negotiation of migration. Comprising 15 projects grouped in three project areas, the SFB is dedicated to explore what it considers to be central ›media‹ in the production of migration: figures, infrastructures and spaces. More information can be found here.

Please find the (preliminary) conference programme in the appendix, here is a brief outline:

  • Wednesday, 23 October (from 6 pm): Opening of the SFB 1604 (Opening address, panel discussion and reception)
  • Thursday, 24 October: Keynotes, commentaries and panel discussions on the concept and perspectives of the SFB
  • Friday, 25 October: Project workshops (participation by invitation only)

We are looking forward to discussing the agenda and the conceptual approach of the Collaborative Research Centre with, among others: Anna Amelina (Cottbus), Sebastián Cobarrubias (Zaragoza), Janine Dahinden (Neuchâtel), Adrian Favell (Cork), Federica Infantino (Nice), Armin Nassehi (München), Boris Nieswand (Tübingen), Karen Phalet (Leuven), Parvati Rhaguram (Open University), Catherine S. Ramírez (Santa Cruz), Thomas Spijkerboer (Amsterdam), Martina Tazzioli (Bologna) and Henk van Houtum (Nijmegen).
