The Colonial Present: Racialised Lives in Contemporary Portugal
We are pleased to invite you to "The Colonial Present: Racialised Lives in Contemporary Portugal"
This seminar examines the lived experiences of racialised subjects in contemporary Portugal, exploring how race, migration, and belonging are produced and contested in the present. Moving beyond celebratory narratives of "Lusotropicalism" and multicultural coexistence, the discussion interrogates how racial difference shapes structures of citizenship, cultural expression, and social inequality — and how racialised communities negotiate, resist, and redefine national identity within a post-imperial European context.
