"Shut Up & Write" – GenSeM PhD/ECR Online Writing Retreats

Shut Up & Write

22 September, 27 October & 24 November 2026

“Shut Up & Write” is a monthly online writing session for PhD students and researchers looking for dedicated time to work on their research and writing projects.

The sessions provide a shared space to step away from the usual distractions and dedicate a couple of hours to making progress on your writing. Whether you are drafting a paper, working on a dissertation chapter, developing a research proposal or simply trying to get some ideas down on paper, you are welcome to join.

Dates and time:

22 September 2026: 15:00–17:00 BST/WEST

27 October 2026: 15:00–17:00 GMT/WET

24 November 2026: 15:00–17:00 GMT/WET

Venue: Online via Zoom

Participation: No registration is required. The meeting link will be shared by email and on our LinkedIn page ahead of each session.

About the sessions

“Shut Up & Write” is intended as a supportive space for researchers to work on their own projects alongside others. There is no requirement to share your work or be at a particular stage of the writing process. Participants are simply invited to bring whatever they are currently working on and use the session as an opportunity to focus, write and make progress. The sessions are also an opportunity to connect with other researchers and make the often solitary experience of academic writing a little more collective.
