IMISCOE Bulletin

Welcome to the 14th edition of the IMISCOE Bulletin!

05 March 2026
We are pleased to share the 14th edition of the IMISCOE Bulletin, released just ahead of the 2026 IMISCOE Spring Conference, hosted by the Centre for Ethnic and Migration Studies (CEDEM) at the University of Liège.

The IMISCOE Bulletin serves as a key communication platform connecting IMISCOE’s 71 Member Institutes, individual members of our network, and the wider community interested in our research. It is built around contributions from the IMISCOE External Affairs Committee (EAC) and the Network Office based at the Centre for Ethnic and Migration Studies (CEDEM) of the University of Liège.
This edition highlights the vibrant research activities taking place across IMISCOE and celebrates the many achievements of our community of migration scholars. These accomplishments are made possible thanks to the commitment of IMISCOE’s Board of Directors, Executive Board, Network Office, Standing and Executive Committees, our active community of PhD students, and the many individual members of IMISCOE who contribute to the collaborative research and events that shape our network.

Inside this issue, you will find a snapshot of the dynamic work taking place in IMISCOE. We open this Bulletin with an editorial by Muhammad Zaman, reflecting on often overlooked questions in migration corridors research. The issue also features updates from our Standing Committees, news from IMISCOE’s PhD Network and PhD Academy, and the latest Open Access publications in the IMISCOE book series, showcasing cutting-edge research in the field. You can also discover recent episodes of the IMISCOE Migration Podcast, where scholars discuss timely topics in migration research.

We are also pleased to present two institutes from our IMISCOE community. Dušan Drbohlav introduces the Geographic Migration Centre (GEOMIGRACE) at Charles University in Prague, Czechia, while Ana Carolina de Moura Delfim Maciel and Adriana Nunes Ferreira present the Universidade Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP), one of the newest institutes to join the network. Moreover, don't miss the contribution by Michele LeVoy, discussing about knowledge production and encouraging us to continue the reflection on research with migrant communities.

This edition also features updates from the Conference Committee of the upcoming IMISCOE Spring Conference, an event which will bring together around 400 participants from across the world to discuss the timely theme Governing and Experiencing Migration in Contentious Times. This conference also introduces several new elements, including an equal number of on-site and online panels (20 each), to expand opportunities for participation across our network. All panels will be chaired by PhD students and ECRs, highlighting the valuable role of the next generation of migration scholars within IMISCOE. Several sessions—including plenaries, semi-plenaries, and side events—will offer simultaneous on-site translation in French and/or English, and special sessions will bring together scholars, civil society organisations, and practitioners to exchange perspectives on migration policies and migrant experiences in today’s contentious times.

On behalf of IMISCOE’s Network Office and External Affairs Committee, we warmly thank all contributors to this edition—and all members of the IMISCOE community whose work continues to strengthen our international and interdisciplinary research network.

We wish you an enjoyable read and encourage you to share this Bulletin widely to help us spread the word about our IMISCOE research and activities.
