CALL FOR NOMINATIONS for new members of the IMISCOE Training Committee

IMISCOE is now seeking for up to seven (7) candidates interested to act as members of the Network’s Training Committee, including 2 members who are currently PhD students and 3-5 members who have completed PhDs (both early-career and more senior researchers among them).

The new Committee members shall be appointed by IMISCOE’s Executive Board (EB). Their main tasks shall consist of exchanging with the current Committee members on developing and proposing activities for the IMISCOE PhD Academy, contributing to the day-to-day management of the Committee, and liaising with the IMISCOE Coordinators, the Executive Board, and the Board of the Directors (BD) when needed.

About the role and the Training Committee

The standard term of membership for the Committee is of maximum four (4) years, after which the EB can decide, upon request of the Committee chair, to extend a second term of maximum 4 years.

The IMISCOE Training Committee primarily runs the IMISCOE PhD Academy which brings together PhD scholars from around the world who are conducting migration research, broadly defined. The PhD Academy only meets virtually, aiming to be climate friendly and inclusive given travel costs and visa restrictions. The Academy usually meets 4-5 times per year, and the members are encouraged to maintain activities between the Academy meetings, in peer mentoring groups, among other.

You will be joining a hard-working and hands-on team which has set-up the IMISCOE PhD Academy from its inception in 2020-2021. We are looking for new members who enjoy fostering and facilitating exchanges between junior scholars, in a supportive and learning-oriented (virtual) environment. The new members should also be willing to take on responsibilities for back-end setting up of meetings, managing email communication with members, and exchanging on principled aspects such as which topics to be prioritized for discussions, how to prepare the Academy events and how the Training Committee can best work with and support the IMISCOE PhD Network. All the Training Committee members are expected to engage and contribute across these range of tasks, from the administrative ones to the principled issues at hand.

About the nomination process

Nominations for the membership of the Training Committee are open to all individuals who are either: a) acting as representatives of IMISCOE Member Institutes in the Board of Directors OR; b) are Individual Members of the Network, irrespectively of the gender, ethnicity, religion or sexual orientation. Nominations must come from the candidates themselves. Potential candidates are also strongly encouraged to contact the IMISCOE Network Office (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) ahead of the nomination deadline in case they wish any further clarifications regarding the membership and role of the Training Committee.

To apply for this position please fill in this google form, by 20 May 2025. The form details you enter will only be used for the purpose of selecting new IMISCOE Training Committee members and will be deleted thereafter. The IMISCOE Network Office shall circulate all candidacies to IMISCOE’s Executive Board, which shall appoint the new members of the Training Committee.
