Call for papers: workshop ‘Return and Readmission: A Normative Approach”, Oslo, 1-2 December.

21 October 2022

We are delighted to invite paper proposals for an international workshop on the role of norms in return and readmission, organized within the research project Deporting Foreigners: Contested Norms in International Practice (NORMS), 2021-2025, funded by the Research Council of Norway.

The workshop aims to go beyond the rationalist bias of the literature on return and readmission to explore the logic of appropriateness and how it operates in the field. This involves shifting focus away from hard power only, and formal policies, such as readmission agreements, to include more normative perspectives on return and readmission as an international practice.

Workshop title: Return and Readmission: A Normative Approach.

Date and place: 1-2 December, 2022, Oslo, Norway.

Organisers: The Norwegian Institute for Social Research (Dr. Erlend Paasche) and ARENA Centre for European Studies (Dr. Nicole Ostrand).

Keynote speakers: Prof. Florian Trauner, Jean Monnet Chair at the Vrije Universiteit Brussels, and Cathrine Woollard, director of ECRE.

Submissions deadline: 4 November (abstracts or draft papers).

Please find attached more detailed information about the purpose and practicalities of the workshop. You receive this email because we believe the workshop may be of interest to you. If you wish to be on the project mailing list in the future, kindly let us know.
