We’re delighted to share the latest episodes of the IMISCOE Migration Podcast – now in its fifth season! Hosted by a dynamic group of researchers from around the world, the podcast offers fresh, original perspectives on migration studies. This season, we’re embracing a new format: each episode brings together two guests in discussion about their research on a similar theme. Check out our latest episodes, that bring migration research insights from various corners of the world.
Episode 2 features Silindile Mlilo in conversation with Isabel Rose Soloaga and Ntokozo Yingwana, who share their use of creative and non-traditional research methods. Isabel, a researcher and filmmaker at the University of Sussex, discusses participatory film as a tool for research and community-building in her upcoming documentary on Afghan evacuees. Ntokozo, a doctoral researcher at Wits University, reflects on her work using digital storytelling workshops and WhatsApp to amplify sex workers’ voices in South Africa.
Episode 3 sees our sound editor Kate Dearden speaking with Rustam Urinboyev and Nodira Kholmatova about the experiences of Central Asian migrants in Russia, before and since the invasion of Ukraine. They delve into how legal and informal constraints shape migrants’ lives and explore new research avenues arising from data challenges in Russia.
In the latest episode 4, Itzel Eguiluz speaks with Ietza Bojorquez and Sylvia Duarte Danas about mental health in the context of migration and intercultural contexts. How can migrants get the support they need, without being stigmatized or pathologized? They share about their work and experiences in Mexico and Brazil.
We hope you enjoy this new format. 🎧 Listen in and join the conversation!
