We are pleased to share this issue with you just ahead of the 2025 IMISCOE Annual Conference, hosted by IC Migrations—the French Collaborative Institute on Migration— in vibrant Paris-Aubervilliers, France.
The Bulletin continues to serve as a vital platform for communication connecting IMISCOE’s 68 Member Institutes, the individual members of our network, and the broader community interested in our activities. It is built around contributions from the IMISCOE External Affairs Committee (EAC) and the Network Office based at the Centre for Ethnic and Migration Studies (CEDEM) of the University of Liège.
This edition also offers an opportunity to reflect on the vibrant and diverse research activities taking place across our Network and to celebrate the remarkable work carried out by the IMISCOE community. These collective achievements are made possible by the sustained efforts of the IMISCOE Network Office, the Board of Directors, the Executive Board, all IMISCOE Standing and Executive Committees, our dynamic community of PhD students, and the many individual members of IMISCOE who contribute to enriching the events and collaborative projects that drive our research network forward.
Inside this edition of the Bulletin, you will find a snapshot of the dynamic work unfolding across our IMISCOE community. Highlights include the release of the 2024 IMISCOE Annual Report, celebrating last year’s milestones; exciting updates from the PhD Academy and the IMISCOE PhD Network; insights into the activities of our Standing Committees, which tackle specific topics within migration studies; a listing of the latest publications in the IMISCOE book series, featuring cutting-edge contributions to the field; and recent episodes of the IMISCOE Migration Podcast, offering new perspectives on migration research around the world.
We also had the pleasure of speaking with Marie-Caroline Saglio-Yatzimirsky and Gvantsa Tsintskaladze about the upcoming IMISCOE Annual Conference that will take place in Paris-Aubervilliers and online. This major event will bring together nearly 1,500 migration scholars from around the world who will engage with the timely and critical conference theme of Decentering Migration Studies.
For this edition of the Bulletin, we also had the opportunity to discuss with Ibrahim Awad (American University in Cairo), who shared with us his thought-provoking reflections on the need to broaden and diversify the field of migration studies—don’t miss his compelling editorial! In addition, we also recommend reading Yasmine Bouchfar’s insightful piece on Reclaiming the Narrative: Women, Migration, and the Global South in Cinema.
On behalf of IMISCOE’s Network Office and External Affairs Committee, we extend our sincere thanks to all the contributors who made this edition of the Bulletin possible! We are truly grateful for the continued commitment of the IMISCOE Standing and Executive Committees, and the enthusiastic engagement of all institutional and individual members of our IMISCOE community. Your efforts are the driving force behind the dynamic activities and ongoing growth of our international research network.
We hope you find this edition of the Bulletin both inspiring and informative—and we warmly invite you to share it widely to help spread the word about our IMISCOE community!
