Sandra Mateus has a PhD in Sociology and she is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow and Assistant Professor at the Instituto Universitário de Lisboa (ISCTE-IUL) and Centro de Investigação e Estudos de Sociologia (CIES-IUL). Her academic research has focused upon children and young people with migrant background, school success, future orientations and social inequality. Currently her research interests are on education, youth, mobility and migration. She collaborates in the Degree in Sociology and in the Education and Society Master, and has taught in the Lisbon School of Education and in the Faculty of Letters (University of Lisbon - FLUL). She also worked as trainer with several publics, as teachers, social and youth workers. She worked between 2006 and 2008 in the ACIDI - High-Commission for Immigration and Intercultural Dialogue, in the National Coordination Office of Programa Escolhas, a government social inclusion programme aimed at children and young people coming from the most disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds. She authored several publications.
My ongoing postdoctoral project on “Mobility, labour integration and social differentiation in the transition to adulthood: patterns and dispositions”, was awarded with a Foundation for Science and Technology (Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia) fellowship grant. As a researcher at the Centre for Research and Studies in Sociology (CIES-IUL), I integrate the Research Groups “Inequalities, Migrations and Territories” and "Knowledge Society, Competencies and Communication". I'm also coordinating for Portugal the “Below 10” European project (Erasmus+), focused on Early School Leaving in Europe (2016-2019); and co-coordinate (together with Teresa Seabra) the Local Educational Project of the Odivelas Municipality (March-July 2017).
