IMISCOE Web Directory - Zenia Agnes Hellgren
Zenia Hellgren is PhD in sociology and senior researcher at GRITIM-UPF. Currently, she is the director and principal investigator of the project Roma inclusion in education: fostering constructive attitudes and good practices in the Barcelona area (Vakeripen), which combines research with applied social work and is co-funded by the Rights, Equality and Citizenship (REC) Programme of the European Union, through Grant Agreement JUST/2015/RDIS/AG/DISC/9372.
Her main research interests involve the situation of immigrants and minorities in multiethnic societies, particularly in terms of inclusion/exclusion, discrimination, participation and representation. She is also interested in developing the link between transnational migration and integration research, assuming that increasingly circular and short-term migration projects incite new questions about belonging and identification. Zenia specializes in qualitative research methods, mainly working with in-depth interviews and participant observations.
